HIGHLIGHTS
Itinerary
DAY 1
Flores Island Provincial Park
This memorable Tofino & Ucluelet backpacking tour begins with a boat ride into Clayoquot Sound to Flores Island. Here we will embark on a beautiful coastal trek, crossing countless beaches and old growth rainforest. We will set up camp at one of the most beautiful bays on the west coast. This evening we will rest on the beach at our campsite and watch the blows of grey whales and keep an eye out for the elusive coastal wolf.
DAY 2
Alpine Hut
This morning after a delicious breakfast, our boat will pick us up and we will head into the interior of the island by 4X4 to access the Cobalt Lake Trail. Once at the top of Mt. 5040, we’ll relax and spend the night in the comfort of the local mountain hut and enjoy a peaceful dinner together and watch the sun set over the horizon; arguably by locals as the best location on Vancouver Island to watch the sun set.
DAY 3
Back to Civilization
On our last day we’ll make our way back to Tofino and back in civilization for the conclusion of this amazing trip.

Challenging
- To determine the grade of a particular adventure we consider a number of factors. These include the condition of the walking trails, daily climbing and descending and duration of the trip. While part of this hike does utilize formed trails, you must be comfortable hiking across technical terrain including rocks and boulders, slippery tree roots and scree slopes. There are some unbridged streams to cross and some steep rocky hillsides to scramble up and down. This itinerary requires good fitness, balance, coordination and a good head for heights. The sense of isolation and wilderness is a strong feature of this trip. For you to be able to really enjoy this hike we recommend that you are confident walking across uneven terrain and are able to hike comfortably for multiple hours at a time (breaks included) with plenty of uphill.
