Join us for one of the best days of alpine hiking on Vancouver Island that you can imagine, starting with a stunning helicopter sightseeing tour! With little effort you'll be transported by helicopter up over the rainforests of Pacific Rim National Park and into the high peaks above Clayoquot Sound and into the Vancouver Island Alps. Our team of professionally certified ACMG guides choose heli-hiking terrain that suits your ability level and personal goals. Helicopter Hiking Tours (aka Heli hikes) can be for those wanting an easy trek with incredible views, or for those that want to tackle harder terrain. You will be dropped off with your guide where you'll enjoy the day of fantastic alpine hiking and mountain views in all directions.

This tour is lead by guides certified by the ACMG. The Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) demands the highest entry standard of any Canadian qualification. Its members are among the best climbers, skiers and backcountry experts in the country. We adhere to the ACMG Scope of Practice and Code of Conduct.

Private (Groups 1-4ppl): $2,900

  • Group Size: 1-4 people (Our Long Ranger helicopter fits a maximum of 5 people including the guide)

  • All times are approximate and are subject to weather
  • 11:00am – Check in with Long Beach Nature Tours to get an update on the weather and the days’ plan.
  • 12:30am – Your guide will pick you up at your hotel and drive to the Long beach Airport where the helicopter will be waiting.
  • 12:45pm – Helicopter safety briefing.
  • 1:00pm – Take off from Long Beach and into the mountains we go!
  • Late afternoon – Your guide will drive you back to your hotel.

Moderate

  • You will need a reasonable level of fitness. You will need to be able to walk for 3-4 hours at a time on undulating paths. Most of the trails are hard packed sand, boardwalks and rain forest trails. You do not need to have any previous hiking experience before you join this tour. You will receive instructions and a full briefing by your experienced hiking guide before you set off. Content with occasional steep section but primarily gradual. Few hazards such as uneven terrain and slippery rocks. Good mobility required.
  • Suitable for ages 13 and up.
  • We recommend you wear comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor exercise and close-toed shoes suitable for hiking.
  • It’s always a good idea to bring a waterproof jacket or an additional layer such as a warm sweater as coastal weather can change quickly – even on sunny days!
  • We recommend you bring a camera of course!
  • It’s also a good idea to pack sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses
  • We ask that you please bring your own reusable water bottle – we’re working to reduce plastic waste. Did you know that Tofino has some of the cleanest and freshest tap water in the world? Our fresh water supply comes from Colnett Mountain on the beautiful Meares Island. If you don’t have a bottle of your own; Reusable Bottles are available for purchase at our Storm Light Outfitter’s Booking Office along with a variety of outdoor gear.
