This 2.5 day course is designed for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts with minimal experience in the backcountry. The evening seminar will give the group an opportunity to plan the weekend, discuss equipment needs and ask questions. After two days in the field you will head home with the skills to feel confident planning your next adventure.

Day 1: Evening seminar - 5:00pm - 8:00pmDiscussion will include: Trip planning, weather forecasting, packing & equipment selection. Day 2: Hike to alpine camp - Depart at 7:00am.Discussion will include: Navigation, camp set-up, route finding & hazard awareness. Day 3: Hike out & Debrief - Arrive in Tofino at 6:00pmDiscussion will include: Wilderness ethics, leave no trace principles & wildlife safety.

Locations may change due to weather forecast and conditions. These hikes require a moderate level of fitness. The routes are steep and elevation gain will be up to 1000m.

 The pre-trip evening seminar gives you an opportunity to plan for the weekend with your Guide-Instructor; learn about the equipment needed; and ask questions. For a positive learning experience, your two days in the field stress skill development. All skills are covered in a hands-on, practical approach that will keep you busy and learning while still having fun! Backpacking is a safe and easy activity - and this course gives you an excuse to start!
