The west coast of Vancouver Island offers a variety of ecosystems that provide critical habitat for migrating shorebirds, waterfowl, forest songbirds, raptors and pelagic seabirds. The Pacific Rim region provides a stopover site for globally significant numbers of shorebirds, many migrating between South America and the Arctic. This bird watching tour through the Pacific Rim National Park near Tofino and Ucluelet is designed as an introduction for the beginner to intermediate bird enthusiasts.

  • You will rendezvous with your guide at the trailhead in Pacific Rim National Park. These details will be discussed during the booking process as locations vary depending on time of year.

Introductory

  • To determine the grade of a particular adventure we consider a number of factors. These include the condition of the terrain and length of the trip. If your tour is graded introductory, no previous hiking experience is required and you can expect 2-4 hours of physical activity. These walks utilize well formed trails, boardwalks, beaches and in general are up to half day in duration. For you to be able to really enjoy this trip we recommend that you are to walk comfortably for a few hours at a time (with breaks included).
  • Suitable for all ages.
  • We recommend you wear comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor exercise and close-toed shoes suitable for hiking.
  • It’s always a good idea to bring a waterproof jacket or an additional layer such as a warm sweater as coastal weather can change quickly – even on sunny days!
  • We recommend you bring a camera of course!
  • It’s also a good idea to pack sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses
  • We ask that you please bring your own reusable water bottle – we’re working to reduce plastic waste. Did you know that Tofino has some of the cleanest and freshest tap water in the world? Our fresh water supply comes from Colnett Mountain on the beautiful Meares Island. If you don’t have a bottle of your own; Reusable Bottles are available for purchase at our Storm Light Outfitter’s Booking Office along with a variety of outdoor gear.
