Bear Viewing in Tofino, BC: May–June 2025 Season Summary
Each April through October, Tofino’s influx of black bears on the shoreline marks the beginning of prime bear-watching season. After hibernation, bears emerge throughout May and June, descending storm-tossed beaches in search of crabs, clams, and shellfish especially at low tide.

May vs June: What to Expect
May: Bears are lean but lively, shaking off torpor and intensely foraging along shoreline edges. Herring spawn in early May, drawing marine life and hungry bears to feast. June: As the season starts, tours regularly spot mothers with cubs, offering heartwarming moments and prime photo ops. June tours also benefit from longer daylight and stable tides, improving sighting chances. This June, we have been spotting many sows (mother bears) with 1-3 cubs. Some of which are newborns this year and others that are larger yearlings born last season.
