Hiking & Interpretive Nature Guides

Overview of the position:

Candidates must be self-motivated, have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a close-knit team-based environment. This role is highly diverse and provides a great work-life balance and an adventurous and fun lifestyle. The Hiking & Nature Guide will work independently and coordinate with the office on all day to day activities. As Long Beach Nature Tours offer a wide variety of tours, you will find enjoyment in every day being different with little worry about it ever becoming repetitive.

Candidates must be genuinely excited to provide the hard work, attention to detail, service, and professionalism required to ensure that our guests have the best possible experience during their time as we experience the beauty of west coast Vancouver Island.

Duties:

  • Meeting guests at either their hotel or the trailhead
  • Guide day hikes in Pacific Rim National Park, Flores Island Provincial Park and Bamfield
  • Guide bike tours in Tofino
  • Guide bear viewing tours
  • Leading interpretive rainforest walks

Minimum Requirements:

  • Class 5 Driver’s license
  • Valid 40-hour wilderness first aid
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the area’s natural history and culture
  • Hiking and tour leading experience

Preferred Requirements:

  • Preference for Professional/Assistant Interpreter – Interpretive Guide Association (IGA)
  • Preference for Bear Guide – Commercial Bear Viewing Association (CBVA)
  • Hiking Guide/Assistant Hiking Guide – Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) for multi-day backpacking trips/heli-hiking trips.

Marine Wildlife Guide

Overview of the position:

Candidates must be self-motivated, have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a close-knit team based environment. This role is highly diverse, providing a great work-life balance and an adventurous lifestyle. The Marine Wildlife Guide will work independently and lead our marine department; guiding wildlife viewing tours and guiding trips to hot springs cove.

Critically, candidates must be genuinely excited to provide the hard work, attention to detail, service, and professionalism required to ensure that our guests have the best possible experience during their time as we experience the beauty of west coast Vancouver Island. 

*Candidates must have their own secure housing in the Tofino/Ucluelet area.



Duties:

  • Captain our 27’ Zodiac Hurricane 733 (8 passenger)
  • Lead a variety of marine tours
  • Maintain vessel maintenance
  • Maintain vessel cleanliness

Minimum Requirements:

  • Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)
  • Marine Emergency Duties (MED A-3)
  • Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (SDV-BS)
  • Radio Operators Certificate Marine Commercial (ROC-MC)
  • Basic Marine First Aid + CPR or higher
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the area’s natural history, wildlife and culture
  • 3+ years relative guiding experience

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bear Guide – Commercial Bear Viewing Association (CBVA)
  • Professional/Assistant Interpreter – Interpretive Guide Association (IGA)
  • Marine Guide – Marine Guides Association of Canada (MGAC)
  • Advanced Wilderness First Aid (40/80hr)
