Overview

Nestled within the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere, is a land of ancient rainforests, rugged fjords, inlets, and islands. With its abundant parks and nature conservancies, this wild haven is the ideal setting for our marine safari and a perfect place for wildlife enthusiasts seeking unforgettable encounters. As spring unfolds, black bears emerge from hibernation and are drawn to the shoreline during low tides, where they can be seen foraging for shellfish and coastal grasses. This creates an excellent opportunity for bear sightings from our RHIB. During higher tides, the wildlife scene shifts as the bears head back into the forest, creating additional fantastic opportunities to view majestic grey whales, sea otters, orcas, and a vibrant variety of bird species. Each tour offers a unique chance to experience the dynamic interplay of tides and wildlife, showcasing nature at its finest.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Wildlife Sightings While we can't guarantee specific animal sightings in their natural surroundings, it's important to remember that each day in nature is a unique and awe-inspiring experience. Our dedicated guides always strive to deliver exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities, and this tour typically offers abundant opportunities to observe the local fauna in their habitat. In this region live healthy populations of black bears, sea otters, seal lions, seals, grey whales, humpback whales and a diverse array of bird species. One of the most captivating moments occurs when, on occasion, we are fortunate to witness transient orcas passing through Clayoquot Sound in pursuit of their next meal. Locations will vary depending on the days weather and sea conditions.

*If you're keen on bear viewing specifically, the best time to catch them foraging along the shoreline is during low tide. Let us know if spotting a bear is a priority for you, and we’ll ensure you're booked for a tour at the optimal time.

Activity Rating: LIGHT Travelers should be in good health and comfortable sitting in an open boat for extended periods of time. Given the dynamic nature of sea conditions and the rapid fluctuations in daily weather forecasts, you should be prepared for a variety of conditions.
